Most fungal infections in Brazil are caused by strains of Candida Spp and fibrous molds of the genus Aspergillus Spp. However, there are many other fungi that can cause infection in humans, including Cryptococcus, Fusarium, Mucor, and others. One of the recurring difficulties faced in clinical practice is the emergence of drug-resistant fungal strains. These resistant strains are the result of systematic drug application and pose an added challenge to infectologists, surgeons and transplant specialists.
Just as there are broad-spectrum antibiotics, those that are effective against a wide range of bacteria, there are also broad-spectrum antifungals. These drugs play a fundamental role in clinical practice and their proper usage is directly associated with longer patient survival rates. As the diagnostic process is complicated and can take days to be confirmed, invasive fungicidal infections can cause high mortality rates during the time it takes the hospital laboratories to identify the agent of infection; hence the considerable importance of empirical therapy with broad-spectrum antifungals.
United Medical and the Treatment of Invasive Fungal Infections
United Medical provides doctors with one of the most advanced medications for treating invasive fungal infections in the hospital environment.
